About Us

School of Dance Arts is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the Northwest area of the city. It was founded in 1989 and provides the community with a year-round professional dance program that trains and educates dancers of all levels. From the beginner to the professional, recreational or serious, dancers develop strength, flexibility, coordination, musicality, technique, and knowledge along with strong self-esteem, discipline, body awareness, creativity, social and inter-personal skills with friendships that last a lifetime.  Our dance education programming includes master instructors in all genres of dance, from classical Ballet, Modern, Jazz, African, Hip-Hop and Tap, as well as specialty classes such as Salsa, Tumbling, Drill Team, Musical Theater, Capoeira, Mommy & Me, and many more.

    

     School of Dance Arts is open to all students, ages 3 to adulthood.  We appeal to people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds who are looking for creative self expression, exercise and/or social opportunities, as well as training for a career in dance through our professional dance education programming.  The school year program culminates in an annual performance. Non-performing dance workshops and classes are also offered year round.



    Many students from School of Dance Arts have attend the Philadelphia Creative and Performing Arts High School.  Some have been awarded scholarships for further study and attended such prestigious institutions as the Joffrey School of Ballet, and the Alvin Ailey

School of Dance.  Others have succeeded in a wide variety of dance oriented careers ranging from dancing with prominent companies to becoming choreographers, teachers and dance studio owners.

   
     Our Summer Programming includes Dance Intensive classes for pre-professional study, Summer Stage,  a Musical Theater Day Camp for boys and girls ages 6 thru 17 years of age, and workshops for youth 3 years of age through adults. Other ongoing programming opportunities through the School of Dance Arts are RISE! Youth Performance Dance Ensemble. Workstudy/Scholarship Pre-employment Teen Mentoring Program, Teen Club, birthday parties, rehearsal space, studio rental and professional dance company participation.
